Well, Christmas has come and gone... as well as New Year's, so I'm playing catch up! Here's our Christmas card... I didn't get many out this year, so, sorry about that. Life is just getting too crazy for words. We didn't have pictures take this year until it was well into December, so everything was a scramble.! But, here ya go... Merry Christmas.
I found this shirt for Jim... and I thought it was the perfect Christmas shirt for him...
And, here's Christmas day at the cabin... No, I didn't take the picture, my friend Kelly did... But, it's beautiful none the less.
And, for the past 100 years, I have always said that I wanted to plant amaryllis bulbs so they would bloom at Christmas. And, this year, I actually did it! I have two plants growing in my office, and six at the house, along with 2 paperwhite plants at the house! Some of them bloomed for Christmas (2) and the rest are going for after Christmas appearances.. One more thing off my bucket list.
And, I'm starting to work on a new project for the cabin. I think I mentioned before that there is a little space in the loft that just needs.... something... So, I'm going to make a glass panel and Jim is going to figure out how to mount it. This is the beginning.... planning the size. I'm not really good at this. When I was making the sunflowers in the bathroom, Jim told me what size to make the panels, and I really thought that I had done it correctly. When I saw him having to saw the hole in the wall bigger, I realized that it wasn't quite right.
Now, I've made the pattern to follow... It has to be in black and white, otherwise you can't see the pattern for the colour in the glass...
And, this is what it is going to look like in all it's colour. I really think it's going to look amazing! It seems I always pick a pattern that is super difficult to make... grrrr... I can't help myself.
Not a whole lot is happening at the cabin as we near the end of the year... There's no heat up there except for the wood burning stove, and with the cathedral ceilings, it doesn't really warm up.... So, we've got out efforts going elsewhere..
We're at the buying in winter and building in summer phase, and I bought another box of ceiling tiles for the kitchen. I really like this pattern.. kind of rustic, and a little old fashioned... But, really pretty..
On another note.... my friend Kelly was recently diagnosed with breast cancer... So, collectively, let's have good thoughts and prayers going out to her for a speedy recovery.
It's been a busy and frustrating year... So many things we wanted to get finished, but between the conex and the bird stuck in the wood burning stove, and little bits and pieces of this and that, they will be completed this next year. Jim, bless his heart, has worked just about every weekend all spring, summer and fall... But, here's the good part... Jim retired in November, so, instead of making the drive back and forth every weekend, he'll be able to spend longer amounts of time without the long drive...I knew the retirement was coming, but I'm still struggling with space. For 20 years, Jim has got up at about 6:30 in the morning to go to work, and I get up later... But, by the time I get up, I get the whole house to myself... and now, I have company, and, poor Jim...He's said he just wants to stay in bed until I'm gone, or stay in his office downstairs. I'm really trying to be patient, but that's not my strong suit... So many thing have been a challenge this year, and it's been emotionally difficult... I am having knee replacement surgery on the 13th of January, so my anxiety level at this point is over the top, and I'm just trying to make it through day by day... Jim has had to "coax me down from a tree" many times... I'm not the calmest person at the best of times, and this has me pushed over the edge.
On that note... yes, this is a really short blog...... the adventure continues...
Love, Jim and Cheri
