New Post

Well, it's Olympic time and Utah is in full swing.  I received this picture from my grandson - he and my daughter, Brianne went to the opening ceremonies in Salt Lake City - looks like they had fun!

...kinda cool...
Side Note: Team Canada men's hockey is in the semi finals after beating Czechia 4 - 3 in overtime.  Let's go Canada!!! (Today, Friday, Team Canada played Finland and won 3 - 2 with 35.2 seconds left in the third!  This means, Team Canada will play either the USA or Slovakia on Sunday for the Gold.  They make us proud!)  Go Team Canada!

My grandson, Ben, had his final tournament of the year this past weekend.... he's the goalie down front.  He had two shut outs, and then lost the final two games.  The team was really disheartened, but, I'm sure they'll come back for next season with a vengeance.  Ben really is a solid goalie and I'm sure his team appreciates his efforts... And, the assistant coach is pretty amazing also.

Jim asked me about what I wanted on the ceilings in the bathrooms... He didn't want the hassle of installing any more tongue and groove wood, and didn't want the same as the kitchen, so I thought we would try out rolling the ceilings.  We've been experimenting with the whole idea and this is what we came up with.. We're both really unfamiliar with this type of application, but we enjoyed trying out different pressures and thickness of mud... this was the last try we had before coming home.  I like it and think it will look amazing in the bathroom.

This was the first try...  we immediately learned a LOT!  As you can see, we are improving!

This is the roller we used.  I did some research and you can put down mud and then roll over it, or you can paint the roller and then paint that design on the ceiling.  I like the first idea.

And, the installation on the ceiling in the great room has continued.  It's really difficult work and at the end of the day, the guys are truly tuckered out.

Going up and down the scaffolding is intense, so it's always a two man job.

Code tells us that after you put the insulation in, you have to cover it with a sheet of plastic... Which in itself, is difficult working entirely over your head.

And, this is as far as they got after this past weekend.  It's so exciting to see the progress. And, this is why Jim doesn't want to do tongue and groove all over the whole cabin...  The craftsmanship is absolutely exceptional and I couldn't be happier.

We are clearing out the house in Provo, and storage areas, and I found more of my Manhattan depression glass.  Jim groans every time I find more... I love this stuff.

Jim was brave this past weekend, and actually USED one of my drinking glasses....  I had a minor freak, but with looking at his sneaky grin after I said something, he really just wanted to poke the bear...  brat.

My mother in law collected turtles for years and in cleaning out storage this past week, I found two pieces of her collection.  I already have several pieces and I intend of building them into my outside shower.  But, that project is for a later date... too much building still to do before starting on the outside.

When we left the cabin on Monday, we were under an extreme weather advisory.... we were supposed to get a major snowstorm starting at 5 in the afternoon... Our drive back to Provo was absolutely beautiful... BUT, last night, the storm blew in.  This is what came yesterday and more last night.   Duck Creek, that is just up the way from us, got 17 inches of snow overnight...  Sigh... I hate the snow... This is why Canadians go to Florida for the winter.

This is what it looked like the day we arrived... and the picture above is the day after we left....  I'm glad we avoided the storm...

With that, this edition has ended.... the adventure continues...
Love, Jim and Cheri

PS:  I did the most exciting thing today - something that I haven't done for years and years... I kicked the ice block that had formed around the wheel well on my car... It was truly exciting!  Giggle.)

And, we still don't have a whole lot of snow up on the mountain, but it sure is pretty.

This 2nd picture was taken off our deck... and, with or without the snow, the view is amazing...

I found this little tea kettle on Marketplace.  I have a whole lot of antique copper for the kitchen, and I thought this would look great.  The amazing part is, the copper part is a tea cozy... it comes off.  I was talking to Jim about it and saying how much I really liked it, and he just had to rain on my parade telling me that copper is not an insulator - it is a conductor... So, unless the copper cozy is insulated, it will let the heat out instead of keep the tea warm...  (Trust me... Jim lives and breathes by the Laws of Physics)..
Did you know there are 12 Fundamental Laws of Physics?  I sure do... giggle.

So, when I picked it up, I checked to see if there was something inside to insulate... and, guess what???  There is!

Insulated or not, it's super cute and look amazing in my kitchen!

As you might remember, I am decorating with sunflowers and I found this bowl... kinda different, but I like it... And, I think it will look amazing with the other sunflowers in the cabin.

We are in the process of emptying out the Provo house - and I found this little copper bucket in our back bedroom... I don't have a clue when I bought it, but at least 10 years ago if not longer.  It's really quite small, not like the ones you put beside your fireplace.  Jim says we should use it to put serviettes on the dinner table.  I think it's a great idea.

I was at home depot last week, and I found these fire starters.  I was intrigued because they look like little bombs.  I showed Jim, and he thought it was a great idea.

And, we have been looking for something to stack the wood for the fireplace in... something that would sit on the deck and not ruin it.  I was thinking that if the wood is directly on the deck, there will be moisture underneath and it won't be pretty after a while.  So, I saw this wood stacker... kind of an interesting idea, but there is a little platform underneath. You can't see the platform in the picture, but the wood stacks in the middle..  So, this is going to be outside the front door, with all the wood..

I snagged this picture off Amazon... I didn't buy mine from amazon - just snagged it to show you kind of what the little platform looks like.

And, Ben was busy working on putting tyvek around the dormers.  We were really concerned about not having the tyvek over the winter, BUT, being we don't have any snow, that's kind of a mute point.  But, he braved the slope of the roof, and got the job done.

He got up there with the help of the boom truck, and then used rappelling gear to stay up there.  Not for this cowgirl.

And, while working on the dormers, Ben found a "bird's nest"...  uhuh... He says that's it's a mouse nest, but I prefer to stay in my delusional state, and believe it's a bird's nest.  He said that if it was a bird's nest, he would have taken it down carefully and slowly... But, he believes there were no birds living there...  Again, I prefer to think differently... giggle. I don't want to think about mouses in my house.

And, I found this toilet paper holder.... I absolutely think this is a scream and it MUST go into the main level bathroom.  It's a 100% must.  Some people would think it's a little crass, but I love it.  And, this is another one of those "Jim humours me" moments.

With that, this edition has closed, the adventure continues, and have a great week.
