Is it a glulam or a gluelam?

Our job this past week was to sand down the 27.5 foot, 1000 pound beam that has sat in our carport for the last year, and then varithane it and then drive it down to the cabin...

This job consisted of building a couple of stands to hoist it on to (with a cherry picker), sand it, on all four sides, make it all pretty, then put the varithane on.

Jim started this project earlier on in the week by building the stands.  On Friday, they were completed, and he and a friend got it onto the stands.  On Saturday, we started sanding, and sanding and sanding... and then sanding some more, until one sander gave up the ghost.  We got two of the sides completed.

Jim had to make a repair at one end.  The problem was you can only cut so deep with a Skilsaw, so once you cut on both sides you have to cut the center with a hand saw.  One blister later and the 8 foot long damaged piece was removed.

The issue at hand we were experiencing was... it's going to rain Monday in Provo, so, even though the beam wasn't finished, we had to take it to the site and put it in the conex to get it out of the weather.

Jim got up at 7:30 and loaded the trailer.  We didn't head down south until 11:30 in the morning - made reasonably good time despite pulling a heavy load behind the truck.

Our friend's and neighbor, Ron and Mary came over and helped out.  I sometimes don't know what we would do without their help and support.  The menfolk got the beam in the conex - the womenfolk watched... just makes sense to me.

Over the past couple of weeks, Ron and Mary cleaned up the property like you wouldn't believe... trees were trimmed, construction crap picked up, scrub oak cut down AND the conex was organized to perfection.  It all looks amazing.  We can't begin to thank them enough.  Here's the burn pile.

Getting closer to framing...  I hope... starting to get a little depressing...

But, all in all, it's another amazing adventure.
